1.    PNG POWER LOAD SHARING

PNG Power is seeking the support of private businesses  with medium to large standby generators  to assist PPL when they face generation shortfalls . With over 60mW of private generation  load sharing  can help improve reliability of power supply in the city . PPL has reviewed its  current offer of subsidy  and offers customers who participate a subsidy to cover part of the fuel cost . Several businesses have been  working with PPL on this scheme since 2007 and the concept has your Chamber support

2.    PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS

Draft PPP legislation  is now ready and the Government seeks comments from the public. It has been published on the website of the Department of Treasury  which can be accessed  through “Government Links “ on your own  Chamber website  www.pomcci.com  or directly  on www.treasury.gov.pg  .

3.    TOURISM PROMOTION AUTHORITY BOARD

The NEC is seeking new nominations from industry groups   for appointment to the TPA Board . If you are a Chamber member and wish to seek the support of POMCCI for your application  please forward  a CV and the names of three referees for  PSC  character screening  to the office  , Attention :   daveconn1@pomcci.org.pg 

 

4.    ROTARY DRIVER TRAINING COURSES  

The Rotary Club of Port Moresby is running these popular “defensive driving” courses again from 21st March to  April 2nd 2011 .  Cost of each Basic Course (which would have to be for every  PMV and taxi driver in Port Moresby ,  I reckon ! J) is K500.00 and the Advanced Course ( to get you home safely after a night at the Yachtie or Lamana J) is K300.00 . You must have done the  basic Course to qualify for the Advanced Course . All courses are run by professional instructors from Australia .

 

Oh , and did  I forget to mention , “you must bring your own car !” .

5.    VISIT YOUR NEW WEBSITE

Your new site at www.pomcci.com  continues to grow and  is receiving  excellent traffic . We are currently working on the Members Database (to be finalised once memberships are all in) and the PNG Getaway section is blossoming so expect new offers in New Ireland and Alotau  any time now  . Have a look and think about taking a break in PNG  after your business  trip or treat  the family . Your visit will open your eyes to what PNG has to offer , and also helps  small businesses in other parts of PNG.

 

6.    EMERGENCY MEDICAL CARE

Through the French Embassy we received a visit from  Emergency Medical  Care Pacific . A member of the AXA Group they are based in New Caledonia and are exploring opportunities in PNG and the Pacific . They specialise in medical security for remote areas and  include Koniambo Nickel SAS , BP Exploration ,Petrocanada , Repsol , Total . BHP Billiton Halliburton , Saipem and Schlumberger among their clients . They are here till the 25th , and  if  you wish to speak with them  directly their contacts are :
