We
have received correspondence from Transport Secretary , Parakei
advising that Department of Transport is carrying out a review of domestic
shipping rates in Papua New Guinea .
The
objectives of the study are two-fold :

To
update the freight tariff rate introduced by the Department of Transport on
1st January 1991 and investigate the appropriateness or
otherwise of the various subsidiary charges that have subsequently been
introduced .
·
To
propose an appropriate and equitable tariff regime structure within the
shipping industry in PNG appropriate to all stakeholders concerned including
consumers , shippers and shoppers within PNG .
CPCS
Transcom of Canada has been engaged as the consultants for the
project .
Secretary
asks for your assistance in providing the consultants information on
freight rates related to domestic shipping , plus other information that will
assist them in their work .
