POMCCI provides the country office in Papua New Guinea for the Australian Government’s Enterprise Challenge Fund (ECF)
The ECF is a pilot program with the long-term goal of reducing poverty by developing a strong private sector in South East Asia and the Pacific.
Grants of between AUD$100,000 and AUD$1.5 million were available for viable commercial projects that improve the lives of people and generate improved access to vital goods and services for disadvantaged communities.
As of mid-2010, the ECF has funded 24 projects in total with 16 grants allocated to Pacific business ventures in Fiji, PNG, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. These private sector Pacific projects are in the agribusiness, seafood, renewable energy, inter-island shipping and tourism sectors.
A mid-term review will inform a decision by the Australian Government about the future of the Enterprise Challenge Fund.
